Joshua Kissi is a Ghanaian-American creative entrepreneur, renowned photographer, and filmmaker based in New York City. Raised in the Bronx, Kissi’s passion for the arts blossomed at the age of seventeen when he first picked up a camera. Despite limited exposure to the creative industries, his determination led to the creation of Street Etiquette in 2008, a pioneering style blog that gained a significant following and partnered with major brands like Nike and Canon. This venture introduced Kissi to the power of photography and storytelling, allowing him to authentically represent himself and others.
Kissi's work extends beyond fashion; he co-founded TONL, a culturally diverse photo stock company aimed at increasing representation in the industry. His commitment to portraying the richness of Black culture is evident in his photography, particularly in his efforts to challenge stereotypes about Africa and its diaspora. In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, Kissi’s talent as a director was showcased in the visual album Black Is King (2020), a project by Beyoncé that celebrated Black culture globally. His involvement in this critically acclaimed work further solidified his reputation as a leading creative force.
In recent years, Kissi has continued to make a significant impact through projects like Nike’s "Until We All Win" campaign for Black History Month 2020, where he emphasized diversity both in front of and behind the camera. His work consistently highlights the humanity and vibrancy of the diaspora, making him a powerful voice in contemporary visual storytelling.
