Creation Africa Ghana in partnership with the National Film Authority and the International Organization of Francophonie, is pleased to announce the recipients of an €80,000 grant under the CLAP ACP* project along with a supplementary €10,000 grant dedicated to two short films.

This announcement follows a meticulous review of projects submitted in response to a call for Proposals launched in February 2024. The selection committee, composed of stakeholders from both public and private entities engaged in Ghana’s film industry, including representatives from the NFA and the Creation Africa Ghana program, carefully evaluated the submissions.

At the end of the process, Ruby Ofori, executive producer of Driving Park Limited, emerged as the recipient of €80,000 for the feature film, A Dream to Die For, written and directed by David Masterwille. This film, which is a co-production between Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo, explores the push factors behind youth engagement in illegal mining and sheds light on its impact on communities and livelihoods. The project exemplifies the CLAP ACP initiative’s goal of fostering international productions that enhance cultural exchange.

The first €5,000 grant has been awarded to Adjoa Brown, director of Regulated Minds which explores the subject of mental health while elevating Ghana as a hub for relaxation through its choice of visuals.

Helen Smith, director of the short film Tantra also receives €5,000 for his horror film which highlights nightlife in Ghana and pays homage to the legendary Tantra nightclub.

These grants are part of Creation Africa Ghana’s broader mission to support local talent, promote innovation in the Ghanaian film industry, and ensure that the economic benefits of these projects are felt locally. As part, of the funding requirements, a significant portion of the grant must be spent within Ghana, contributing to the local economy.

* CLAP ACP is an EU-funded initiative aimed at bolstering co-productions among African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries. By complementing existing partner funds, CLAP ACP seeks to elevate the quality and quantity of locally produced content, facilitating its entry into international markets.
